On the evening of 17 January 1950, seven men in navy peacoats, chauffeur's caps and Halloween masks walked into the Brink's building at 165 Prince Street, Boston. Seventeen minutes later, they walked out with more than $1.2 million in cash and about $1.5 million in cheques and securities. They left behind a cap, some rope and some tape, and almost no clues.
They had planned it for years. They watched the building from rooftops, secretly copied the keys to its locks and rehearsed again and again. For nearly six years, the FBI could not charge a single one of them.
Then one of the robbers, Joseph "Specs" O'Keefe, survived three attempts on his life and decided to talk. The arrests came just five days before the deadline to prosecute ran out.
This is the full true story of the Great Brink's Robbery, the crime of the century.
