Loving other Christians is not the optional extra of the Christian life. Peter makes it the acid test of whether you have been born again at all. Allan Huxtable preaches on 1 Peter 1:22-2:3 at Reynard Way Church, Sunday morning, 13 September 2026 - part of our series in 1 Peter. Peter tells Christians under pressure to love one another earnestly from a pure heart, and he packs the new birth around that command on every side. Allan draws out two principles that sound like opposites: this kind of love is impossible unless God has made you new and you are growing - and it is inevitable if he has. Which is exactly what makes it a test. You can pass the doctrine test and the moral test without the gospel ever reaching your heart, but you cannot fake this one for long. He finishes with two instructions: love has to be sincere, which means truthful rather than merely tolerant, and it has to be deep - Peter's word means stretched to the limit.
