What happens to seagrass after it's harvested — and how do you turn it into the seeds needed to restore lost seagrass meadows?
GreenWales is back at *Project Seagrass HQ in Bridgend* for a revisit, following the next stage of a restoration journey we first explored in our original Project Seagrass episode.
Seagrass collected in North Wales has arrived at HQ, where the reproductive shoots are carefully processed to release their seeds.
We follow the journey through the tanks, filtration and seed-processing systems, see some of the first seeds being collected, and discover how they will eventually move to the nursery before being planted back into restoration sites.
The North Wales batch alone is expected to produce around **700,000 seeds**, with Project Seagrass aiming to produce approximately **one million seeds each year**.
We also explore why biosecurity matters, how seawater is continuously cleaned and reused, where restoration is working in Wales, and how volunteers can get involved — from seed picking and planting to spotting seagrass themselves.
This is sustainability in action: restoring biodiversity, strengthening coastal ecosystems, storing carbon and bringing people into nature recovery.
🌱 Watch the original Project Seagrass GreenWales episode to discover more about their wider work.
