Luna Moth Life Cycle (Actias luna) — From Egg to Adult | Full Metamorphosis

The Luna Moth (Actias luna) is one of the most spectacular insects in North America. In this video, you'll see its complete life cycle — from a tiny egg to a giant green moth with long tails. Life Cycle Stages: 00:00 Entry 00:12🥚 Egg — Tiny, oval eggs laid on host plants (walnut, hickory, sweetgum). 00:27 🐛 Caterpillar — The larva eats continuously and grows rapidly. 04:47 🟤 Cocoon — The caterpillar spins a silk cocoon and transforms inside. 06:36 🦋 Adult Moth — The adult Luna Moth lives only about one week — it doesn't even have a mouth to eat! Why it's not a butterfly: The Luna Moth is often called a "butterfly" because of its beauty, but it's actually a moth from the family Saturniidae (giant silk moths). Unlike butterflies, moths are mostly nocturnal and have feathery antennae. Music: 'Within Our Nature' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0.
