Toxic Law Firm Culture: This Managing Partner Exposes All - Sahar Farooqi

Ego is destroying the law profession. Managing Partner Sahar Farooqi has been inside the machine. And he's done pretending it works. He breaks down how ego forms, how it shows up at senior levels, and how it quietly poisons leadership, culture, and decision-making long before firms admit there's a problem. Sahar is a former barrister and former Global Head of Transformation at Harneys. He is now CEO of Legalencia and Managing Partner at Arbor Law. He offers a clear lens for recognising ego-driven systems, and a practical way to lead, influence, and grow without becoming part of the problem. He reveals: ◼️ Why success can feel hollow once you finally reach it ◼️ How ego quietly drives toxic leadership and broken cultures ◼️ The echo chambers inside law firm boards and senior leadership ◼️ Why lawyers cling to status long after it stops serving them ◼️ Why discomfort is the gateway to real growth ◼️ How firms ignore cultural decay until revenue is threatened ◼️ What it actually takes to lead and change entrenched systems 00:00 Toxic Leadership & Echo Chambers 00:58 Meet Sahar Farooqi 01:28 Why Achievement Feels Empty 03:22 The Cost of Constant Success 06:52 The Fire that Fuels Sahar to be Successful 08:00 Discomfort Drives Growth 08:47 Lawyers are Afraid of Failure 10:42 What Makes Sahar Uncomfortable 12:14 Life as a Founder 14:30 The Reality of Partnership 15:55 How Toxic Cultures Survive 19:57 Walking Away From Status 21:58 Creating a New Role 24:58 Role at Harneys 27:38 Sahar’s Real Opinion on William Peake 29:29 Edges to Have as a Managing Partner 30:50 Respect Over Popularity 34:18 Why Toxic Firms Don’t Change 38:57 Purpose, Growth & What’s Next New episodes every Tuesday.
