X-MEN '97 2x9 | Survival of the Fittest - Beast, Rogue, and Nightcrawler find Ship abandoned by Apocalypse, and Rogue uses it to speak with Eson. He removes the X-Ternal's power from her, but she convinces him to give her the power to stop Apocalypse and save Gambit in exchange for her life. X-Force and X-Factor attack X-Corp, attempting to get to Gambit's body. Cable shoots Gambit in the head and believes he has achieved his destiny, but this unleashes Apocalypse who transforms Gambit's body into a monstrous form and brainwashes all of the X-Men, X-Force, and X-Factor. Apocalypse taunts Xavier for relying on his fellow mutants, but Xavier is vindicated when Rogue arrives and uses her celestial powers to free Gambit and the others, and trap Apocalypse's consciousness inside a crystal that she gives to Cable. Rogue is surprised when she continues to live after her celestial powers subside, until Beast arrives and reveals that Nightcrawler offered his own life to Eson so Rogue and Gambit could be together.
