They build a face that works so well it replaces them. Underneath it, something that never got a place starts making a sound. They bury the sound — not by denying it, but by cutting the wire between what they feel and what it might mean. Years pass in perfect working order. Then the seal starts to sweat: what was buried presses back, not to destroy them, but to be let in. In the last track they stop pulling. Not happiness — the end of needing a reason.
