THE PRESENTER
Mak Saito is a Senior Scientist in the Department of Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). His research focuses on marine biogeochemistry and the interactions between microorganisms, trace metals, and nutrients in the ocean. His laboratory develops and applies proteomic approaches to understand microbial physiology and biogeochemical cycles for studying marine microbial communities.
Saito received his PhD in Chemical Oceanography from the MIT-WHOI Joint Program and has been a scientist at WHOI since 2003. He also promotes international ocean science efforts, including teaching omics and biogeochemistry through the Coastal Ocean Environment Summer School in Nigeria and Ghana (COESSING) and developing the BioGeoSCAPES international research effort.
NANO GLOBAL PROJECT NANO-DOAP
In order to contribute to the global effort of monitoring the levels of ocean deoxygenation, acidification and productivity the NANO Global Project (NANO-DOAP) aims: 1) promote in situ and remotely sensed observations of the ocean at selected coastal sites; 2) provide opportunities to the project participants strength their efforts to monitor essential ocean variables; and 3) organize activities where members can share experiences and best practices, as well as compare results from local analysis, producing global results.
