Humber Bay – the old “motel strip” had a past! - Structures - Part 2 of 3

Beginning in the late 1800’s, Torontonians escaped the heat and soot by taking ferries from downtown Toronto to resorts along Lake Ontario, such as those in Humber Bay. With the arrival of the automobile, it meant that families could park their car right in front of their very own motel room on the waterfront! Boating, beaches, dance halls, the nearby Sunnyside Amusement Park, and even a golf course made Humber Bay an ideal vacation spot. In time, with popularity of air travel, part of this area went into decline and became known as the “motel strip”. Today, it has transitioned yet again, into Humber Bay Shores, with tall waterfront condos and parkland.
