I Turned One Serum Bass Into Endless New Sounds

You don't always need to keep searching for another preset. Sometimes you just need to get more out of the sound you've already made. In this session, I start with a completely blank instance of Serum 2 and build a dark synth bass from scratch. Once the patch is working, I spend some time getting movement and variation happening inside Serum itself. I then programme a 32-bar MIDI sequence and use a macro to control multiple parameters at once, including: • LFO rate • Filter cutoff • Global pitch As the macro moves, the sound constantly changes and evolves, creating variations that would be difficult to recreate exactly. Then comes the interesting part. I bounce the 32-bar performance down to audio and bring it back into a sampler. This is where one synth patch can start becoming something else entirely. Once you've created a sound with enough movement and variation, resampling gives you a completely new set of possibilities. You can chop it up, repitch it, stretch it, reverse it, layer it and turn sections of one performance into entirely new sounds. This wasn't planned or practised beforehand.
