Zoe finds John badly injured and reveals more about the Manhunters, including that the Guardians originally created them before deciding they had become too dangerous. While Hal tries to capture Zoe, Antaan and his forces attack Rushville, sending the town into complete chaos. Zoe uses her technology and weapons against anyone standing in her way, forcing Hal into one of his biggest fights yet while his ring continues losing power. John eventually returns and clashes with Hal before secretly using him as bait to lure Zoe into the open. John kills the Manhunter himself, ending their complicated relationship and finally bringing the hunt that has driven the season to a close. Afterward, John removes Hal’s ring and briefly becomes the new Green Lantern. But when he meets with Guardian Lianna, he admits that wearing it felt empty. After seeing what holding onto the ring has done to Hal, John gives it back and walks away from everything he spent his life preparing for.
