Mutual Induction — Chapter 17 Alternating Current for 12th Class Physics.
In this lecture, we explain the phenomenon of mutual induction, the working of primary and secondary coils, mutual inductance, the derivation of induced EMF, factors affecting mutual inductance, and the definition of one henry according to the new Physics syllabus for Punjab Boards.
Topics Covered in This Lecture:
Definition of mutual induction
Primary and secondary coils
Principle and working of mutual induction
How a changing current produces changing magnetic flux
Induced EMF in the secondary coil
Definition and symbol of mutual inductance
Relationship between mutual inductance, magnetic flux, and primary current
Factors affecting mutual inductance
Derivation of the induced EMF equation using Faraday’s law
Role of Lenz’s law and the negative sign in the induced EMF equation
Formula for calculating mutual inductance
Definition of one henry
SI unit of mutual inductance
Applications of mutual induction in transformers, electric motors, generators, medical devices, and metal detectors
Important Concepts
Mutual induction occurs when a change in current in one coil produces a changing magnetic field, which induces an EMF in a nearby coil. The mutual inductance of two coils describes how effectively a change in current in the primary coil induces an EMF in the secondary coil. It depends on factors such as the number of turns, coil dimensions, magnetic permeability, distance, and relative orientation of the coils.
