After "Hi Ren" and "One Million Subscribers," I was already assuming it was going to be about his illness and being misdiagnosed, and I know how much it takes out of me to share my story. I just wanted to be ready so it didn't overwhelm me. And then the song starts, and it's that moment — sitting across from a doctor and hearing "it's all in your head." I've been in that seat. I've heard those exact words more times than I can count, so eventually you just stop trying to explain. This one brought up a lot. I was on opioids as a teenager, and they were the only time I actually felt okay — until I'd lost my apartment, my brand new car, and a great job, all because I was taking them and using every dollar I had to buy more off the street, so there was never anything left for the bills. And the memory stuff — I had a photographic memory growing up, and now I forget things almost instantly. Long-term medication restructured my brain and body. They kept me on Xanax for 30 years without realizing how much damage it was doing to my brain and mostly my memory. A lot of the memory loss was from the stroke — the brain damage from the stroke — but the Xanax made it worse. I've been through over 200 medications in my lifetime. And when I brought up the memory issues? They gave me Alzheimer's medication, then told me to alternate it with another one, and it turns out both had just been proven not to work.
