Natural Rubber Production at Home || Ribbed Rubber Sheets

Natural rubber is obtained from high quality grafted rubber trees. The tapping process is done usually when the tree matures, about 8 years old with about 18 to 20 inch gird. The bark is wounded by cutting with a special knife called "Jabong". While tapping utmost care should be taken as not to cut the cambium layer that allow regrowth of the bark. Only 1.5 to 2 mm bark is cut out at every tapping. I usually do the tapping 5 days in a week with two rest days, Thursdays and Sundays. This helps boost the Dry Rubber Content. After the sap or latex has been collected, it is processed in a tray, each tray producing about a Half Kilo sheet. Generally our sheets are mostly graded to RSS4/RSS5 standard, so we are not much concerned about the weight. Therefore, we mix the latex in this proportion: 2 liters Rubber latex + 2 Liters water + 2.5 ml Formic Acid for Coagulation. The mixed latex is then allowed to sit for about 6 to 12 hours (depending on the season) and pressed in the roller machines to finally obtain the sheet.
