Natural Branches for Agapornis Roseicollis | Enrichment, Exploration & Natural Behaviour

Agapornis roseicollis are naturally curious, active and highly exploratory parrots. Through years of direct observation and practical experience with birds, I have learned to pay close attention to their behaviour and to adapt their environment according to their natural activity and needs. For this reason, I have created natural swings and perching structures using carefully selected natural branches, with the aim of making the aviary environment more natural, stimulating and behaviourally enriching. Natural branches should not all be perfectly straight or uniform. Branches with different diameters, irregular shapes, bends and natural knots provide greater variety for the birds and create opportunities for perching, climbing, balancing and exploration. Different branch surfaces and diameters also provide natural foot exercise. Lovebirds are natural chewers and often investigate their environment with their beaks. Thicker, untreated branches provide a natural material for chewing and exploration, while also adding variety and activity to the aviary. I arrange the branches according to the available space, creating a three-dimensional environment with multiple levels, perching locations and movement routes. A more complex natural environment gives the birds more opportunities to move, explore, choose different positions and express their natural behavioural patterns. I do not use plastic perches or unnecessary artificial structures. I prefer natural, untreated branches and materials that allow the birds to interact with their environment in a more natural way. The aim is not simply to decorate the aviary, but to create an environment in which the birds can remain active, curious and naturally engaged. When their environment provides opportunities for exploration and movement, their behaviour can become more varied and lively. The birds are also entering the seasonal transition toward winter, making this an interesting period for observing changes in activity, social behaviour, plumage condition and daily routines.
