Getting Steamy: A Love Story

When Joe Janora was a teenager he was very interested in his classmate Meghan, a fourth-generation dairy farmer in East Otto, New York. In winter, Meghan spent all her time in the family’s sugarhouse, running the evaporator. “If I wanted to be around Meghan,” Joe joked, “I had to be at her farm… and I was going to be around her… and so we boiled together.” Maple obsession followed, and today Joe and Meghan are married, in their forties, with four children 13-18 (Evelyn, Kent, David and Sam), all of whom are deeply involved in and committed in the family’s maple enterprise – less than a mile from the farmhouse where Meghan was born and raised.
