A General History of the Pyrates - Ep 25, Captain Bartholomew Roberts, Part 6 of 10 (Audiobook)

Episode 25 of 39: Chapter 9, Captain Bartholomew Roberts, Part 6 of 10. A General History of the Pyrates, published in London in 1724 under the name of Captain Charles Johnson, is the book that gave us most of what we know about the pirates of the golden age: Henry Avery, Blackbeard, Stede Bonnet, Calico Jack Rackam, Anne Bonny and Mary Read, Howel Davis, Bartholomew Roberts, Edward Low and their crews, from their rise on the island of Providence to the gallows. This is a clean, narrated reading of the second edition (1724), complete and unabridged. It is read as written, including the language and attitudes of its time, among them its words for enslaved Africans. Rosters of the men tried are shown on screen rather than read aloud. Old spellings such as "Pyrates" are kept in the text and spoken in the modern way.
