Once Upon A Time… Cedric Im Brooks 1943~2013🔥 From Alpha to Saba | Roots Reggae Legend Tribute

Cedric “Im” Brooks, born Cedric Roy Brooks, was born on April 27, 1943, in Kingston, Jamaica, and passed away on May 3, 2013, in New York, at the age of 70. A saxophonist, flautist, composer and arranger, he is one of those great Jamaican musical architects whose name may be less widely spoken than others, yet whose imprint runs deep through the roots of the island’s history. Trained at the legendary Alpha Boys School, Cedric Im Brooks belongs to that extraordinary lineage of Jamaican musicians who helped shape the sound of a nation. From early on, he was immersed in the world of horns, breath, and a music in transformation between ska, jazz, mento, rocksteady and the rising pulse of reggae. He was connected to Studio One, played with The Mystics, moved through the world of Count Ossie and The Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, and later gave rise to the unforgettable journey of The Light of Saba, where roots reggae, Afro-jazz, Rastafari consciousness, mystical breath, instrumental depth, African memory and Nyabinghi pulse meet in a truly singular way. His path forms a unique bridge between: ska and reggae, jazz and Nyabinghi, Jamaica and Africa, the memory of the elders and spiritual elevation. With Cedric Im Brooks, music does not merely entertain. It opens a space. It uplifts. It connects. It reminds us that the deepest roots of reggae have always been in dialogue with inner searching, sacred rhythm, and a history larger than genre itself. After the passing of Rolando Alphonso, Cedric Im Brooks also joined The Skatalites, extending his link to the very foundations of Jamaican music. This tribute is an homage to a rare, visionary and precious figure who carried the breath of the roots into free, mystical and unforgettable territories.
