Every ball from Majid Khan's record breaking half century in 22 balls for Glamorgan against Northants at Wellingborough in August 1975.The 40 over Sunday league match was televised by the BBC, with Majid breaking the record for the fastest televised 50 previously held by Viv Richards. Majid would go on to plunder 75 of 35 balls, with Northants bowler and Majid's Pakistan team mate Mushtaq Mohammad coming in for particular punishment. Glamorgan going on to post 266 - 6 in their 40 overs (a then limited overs record for the Welsh county) and winning the game by a mammoth 148 runs.
This match was a rare bright spot for a Glamorgan team that had started to struggle by the mid 70s following the retirements of the likes of County championship winners Don Sheppard, Tony Lewis and Peter Walker. And Majid had played a important part in that 1969 triumph - most memorably his innings of 156 against Worcestershire on a difficult wicket in the game which clinched the title at Sophia Gardens.
Majid took over the Glamorgan captaincy when injury forced Tony Lewis to retire in 1974 but it sadly proved to be a unhappy experience with poor results on the field seeing him resign the captaincy and leave the Welsh county halfway thru the 1976 season.
Majid would continue to represent Pakistan at test level for another 7 years and retired from the game in 1985. A legend at Glamorgan he is widely regarded as one of the most elegant and entertaining batsmen of his era. The commentary in the video comes from Jim Laker.
