Welcome to Kavaledurga Fort (also known as Bhuvanagiri Durga), one of Karnataka's most beautiful hill forts, located near Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district. Surrounded by the lush Western Ghats, this historic fort offers a perfect mix of trekking, history, ancient temples, and breathtaking panoramic views.
📍 Location: Kavaledurga, near Thirthahalli, Shivamogga, Karnataka
🕒 Fort Timings
Open: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Entry closes by 5:00 PM, so it's best to start your trek early in the day. The complete trek and exploration usually take 2–3 hours.
🏛️ History
Originally built around the 9th century and later strengthened by the Keladi Nayakas.
Served as an important capital and military stronghold.
Associated with the famous Keladi Queen Chennamma and Maratha prince Rajaram.
The fort features massive granite walls, gateways, palace ruins, step wells, watchtowers, and ancient water tanks.
