In early 2017, during one of the coldest winters in recent memory, I flew from Warsaw, Poland, to Chisinau, Moldova. Moldova I could then add to my list of countries visited, completing my half century. After a few days exploring Chisinau - a more interesting city than I'd been led to believe - I decided not to take up the option of my return flight to Warsaw. Instead, I headed home overland. First I travelled on a cheap, uncomfortable minibus to Iasi, Romania. After a brief stay there, I continued west, taking an early train over the mountains to Cluj Napoca. The journey was particularly memorable, thanks in large part to the wonderfully generous Romanian I shared my compartment with. A 6 am beer is not always something I'll accept, but sometimes it's the perfect way to start the day. From Cluj, I was in some difficulty trying to figure out the best way onwards. I toyed with the idea of going to Debrecen in Hungary, and then Kosice in Slovakia, but when I investigated the routes available, everything seemed just to run directly through Budapest. With only a handful of days left over before I needed to be home in Poland, I eventually opted for the Hungarian capital. This would be my third visit to Budapest; they say that the third time's the charm, and that was certainly the case here. I thoroughly loved my short visit this time around, despite the temperatures of around minus fifteen. And then, that was it; I bought a ticket on the Polski Bus to Krakow, and tried in vain to sleep through the night journey; the next morning I hurried over to Bielsko-Biala and home, to rest after my marathon trek. The video I have put together here includes music by 'Unheard Music Concepts' and their brilliant album 'Slow'.
