Latvian organist Larisa BULAVA plays Fantasy / Fantāzija
by distinguished Latvian composer
Alfreds Kalnins / Alfrēds Kalniņš ( 1879-1951)
Larisa BULAVA is a prominent Latvian concert organist
with extensive performing experience in Latvia and abroad.
L. Bulava was born in 1950 in Riga and first studied piano
at the E. Darzins Music School.
From 1968 to 1974 Larisa Bulava studied piano and organ at the J. Vitols Latvian Music Academy with prof. I. Kalnins ( piano) and N. Vanadzins ( organ)
Upon graduation from the Music Academy she received
her degrees in performance of both: piano and organ.
In 1975 L. Bulava became a soloist of the Latvian State Philharmony.
In 1980 and 1981 she continued her education,
studying with prof. Schetelich at the Mendelssohn Music Academy
in Leipzig and also took various master classes with other prominent professors.
As a soloist and ensemble musician, she has given many concerts
in all the former USSR republics, Germany, Austria, Poland,
the Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Israel,
Canada and USA.
Her recordings can be found at the Latvian Radio and on several CDs.
Since 1977 Larisa Bulava has been teaching
(as associate professor since 2001) at the Jazeps Vitols Latvian
Music Academy and since 1992 she is the organist of the Riga Cathedral
L. Bulava also has taught organ at the Daugavpils Music College,
has held master classes in the Netherlands,
has participated in organ competition juries and maintains
an active concert life in Latvia and abroad
Her success is a result of talent, hard work, brilliant live
performances and many hours spent in recording sessions
for The Latvian State Radio
