Join the crew here:    / @chorgantravels   We stayed for one night on August 30th after driving in from Whitefish, MT. This quiet municipal park sits right on the outskirts of town, providing a beautiful prairie backdrop below the reservoir dam. Because it offers reliable utilities at a fantastic price, it is a phenomenal, budget-friendly option to know about when traveling along the historic Montana Hi-Line corridor. 📸 INSTAGRAM:   / chorgantravels   📋 CAMPGROUND SPECS & AMENITIES: 📍 Region: North Central Montana, USA (City of Shelby Operated) ⛺ Campground: Lake Shel-oole Campground 🛣️ Site Types: 46 total campsites looping around a grassy bowl below the dam. Features a mix of level, gravel-padded pull-through and back-in spaces. Note that while some sites are clearly marked and easy to read, others have faded or missing site numbers (like the one we stayed at!) 🔌 Hookups: Partial hookups. The campground offers 30-amp electricity at the sites. While some sites have direct water hookups, others do not - water hydrants are regularly spaced throughout the loops to share or fill tanks. We had a partial hookup with 30-amp electric but no direct water at our site. ⚡ Generator Hours: No strict generator hours are heavily posted due to the self-pay nature, but standard camping courtesy applies! 🚘 Max Vehicle Length: Highly accommodating to big rigs, travel trailers, and long camper vans due to the wide pull-through layouts. 🛰️ Connectivity: Being a wide-open prairie environment entirely clear of tree obstructions, the Starlink connection here is flawless! Cellular signal across the park is also very strong due to close town proximity. 🚻 Restrooms: Clean, public comfort stations featuring flush toilets and hot showers with great water pressure available for campers. 🧼 Amenities: Grassy recreation grounds, an on-site playground, a dedicated fenced dog park with obstacles, and a free RV dump station located right near the exit loop. The campground directly handles trash with dumpsters on loop. Within the park complex, you'll find four active summer ballfields and the 5-mile paved Roadrunner Recreation Trail. 🗺️ Proximity: Located right off Oilfield Avenue. | 0.5 mi to 1 mi to Downtown Shelby | 35 mi to Sweet Grass Port of Entry (U.S./Canada Border Crossing) | 80 mi to Glacier National Park (East Entrance) | 86 mi to Great Falls | 101 mi to Lethbridge, AB | 173 mi to Helena | 234 mi to Calgary, AB. ⏰ Times: Check-in and check-out are not strictly monitored or enforced. It is a highly flexible, relaxed arrival setup! ⚠️ INSIDER ROAD TRIP & SAFETY UPDATES: 🚂 Noise Alert: The campground sits in a railroad town, meaning you may hear distant transit sounds or highway noise, though reviews generally rate it as a peaceful, low-noise stay. 🎒 LOCAL TIP: Because it's a working blue-collar town, downtown has a few boarded buildings, but all necessities can be found close by. Locals highly recommend heading down to Coyote Lanes and Pub inside the bowling alley for a great pizza! 📞 Reservations: Reservations are NOT accepted. This campground operates strictly on a first-come, first-served (FCFS), space-available basis. 💲 Fees: Camping fees are $25.00 per night. Payment runs entirely on an honor-system self-pay envelope box at the entrance. Cash or check required. 🔥 Campfire Policy: Campfires are typically permitted within designated site areas, but always bring your own firewood or a propane stove system to comply with local seasonal prairie fire risks. 🚫 Utilities Note: There are no individual sewer hookups at the campsites. Bring a long fresh-water hose to reach shared spigots, and utilize the free dump station on the road out. 🐾 Pets: Highly pet-friendly! Dogs are welcome and will love running around the dedicated dog park facility. If this full tour helped you plan your next Montana road trip or Canadian border crossing, drop a like and subscribe!
