Artist Bio: David J Tuffley works at the intersection where music and technology meet, treating both as instruments for the expression of the same emotion. In his other life, David works at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence at Griffith University, his work has made him a regular voice in national media and academic circles alike. The same restless intelligence that drives his writing finds a different outlet in music. AI tools when used well can capture the mood and meaning of those moments in life that might be called 'peak experiences' wherein powerful, never to be forgotten emotions are had. David's love affair with the technology for making music goes back to the early days of German techno in the 1970's. It was a radical shift and one that did not sit well with traditionalists, but down through history avant garde musicians have always reached for whatever tools their era offered, from the first stringed instrument made from gut and wood to the multitrack tape machine to the synthesiser that once seemed like a betrayal of "real" music and is now a beloved voice in its own right. Each new technology has been met with the same suspicion and, eventually, the same embrace, because the goal has never changed: give the idea in your head a way out into the world where it wants to go. David sees the current generation of AI music tools in exactly that lineage, not a shortcut around hard-won craft but another instrument to be learned, another set of hands to work alongside his own. As a producer, David moves freely across genres, from Texas blues boogie to dub techno, doom jazz, classical to big band swing, guided by a simple conviction: all music deserves at least one honest listen. The challenge is not to settle on the genre from one's glory days and staying loyal to it, but making music that nourishes something in the listener, music that earns repeat plays on its own merits regardless of what shelf it sits on. That philosophy runs through everything he produces, whether the mood is a hypnotic highway shuffle or something altogether more introspective.
