When your 10-year-old daughter is in childhood leukemia maintenance therapy, a sudden 104°F fever in the late afternoon changes everything in a single heartbeat.

In today's episode of NuNaNy Family, our 10-year-old daughter Na suddenly spikes a 104°F fever in our 650-square-foot rented home. After giving her a dose of fever reducer and laying a cool washcloth on her forehead, my wife Nguyet and I immediately contact Dr. Trang—Head of the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Department at Children's Hospital Number Two, who directly oversees Na's leukemia maintenance care.
While Nguyet and Aunt Thao stay home to care for 5-month-old Baby Tony (during his afternoon break from his Ponseti clubfoot boots and bar), I take Na to our local medical clinic to run the urgent blood panel and chest X-ray Dr. Trang ordered (just under $20 total). Up on the 3rd-floor laboratory—where Na comes almost every 1 to 2 weeks for routine blood monitoring—she sits with complete confidence for a single-stick blood draw and walks into the X-ray suite all by herself.
After waiting 15 minutes for the printed chest X-ray film, I ask the clinic to send the 2-hour blood test results straight to my phone so I can forward them to Dr. Trang—who confirms Na's lungs are clear and diagnoses a viral fever. On our way home, Mom Nguyet was so worried that she handed Baby Tony to Aunt Thao and rode out on her scooter to look for us!
Through an afternoon of keeping Na hydrated as the high fever causes vomiting, filming the colorful living room paintings that helped Na push through the physical pain of leukemia treatment, sharing a late 10:10 PM family dinner with 14-year-old big brother Nu, and carrying Na to bed at 11:12 PM for a warm sponge bath—thank you for walking alongside our family of six.
