The Frozen Ship has one of the most interesting survival game concepts I’ve seen in a while—but right now, I can’t recommend buying it. The opening is genuinely enticing, the atmosphere works, and the overall concept has serious potential. Unfortunately, once I got deeper into the gameplay, the problems started piling up. The story feels disjointed, with moments and objectives that don’t always make sense. Looting quickly becomes repetitive and disconnected from progression, while trader prices seem completely out of balance with the value and availability of the loot you actually find. Then there’s the save system. The Frozen Ship can put you in situations where you become stuck in a gameplay loop with seemingly no reasonable way to recover. Because of how saving works, that can potentially mean replaying huge portions of the game—or starting over entirely. For a game that already struggles with repetitive looting and progression, that’s a major problem. Gameplay bugs add even more frustration and regularly get in the way of what could otherwise be a fascinating survival experience. For me, The Frozen Ship is currently a 4/10. That doesn’t mean there isn’t something worth saving here. The developers clearly had an ambitious idea, and there’s real heart behind the project. The setting, premise, atmosphere, and opening prove that this could become a much better game with substantial reworking. I’d love to revisit The Frozen Ship after a major update or revamp. For now, though, I recommend reading player reviews carefully before buying.
