Growing Sweet Potato (AKA Kumara) From Store Bought ~ Dig Deep ( °° 2nd video here:    • Pt. 2: How To Grow Sweet Potato (AKA Kumar...   °° ) OBJECTIVE: Prepare soil for successful kumara growing; incl. details of creating ideal soil for a high yield from this plant. Plant Kumara / Sweet Potato slips; our first of hopefully many staggered plantings. Prepare "mother" kumara for 2nd and 3rd harvest of slips:. Experimental; interested to see if 2nd/3rd generation slips perform better/worse + any other notable happenings. Test nature to see if I can grow these successfully before frosts are finished by being creative. Ultimate objective: save money! Our family spend approx. $5-$10 per week on kumara; at an average of $7.50 that is $390 per year! °° imagine what you'd save if you grew ALL of your vegetables °° this is my goal. And as always: Create something fun and magical for the kids. Do it all as cheap or free as possible! In this case used 1 store bought kumara, and one tub that to date has been used as a kids bath, then as a compost tub, now a planted pot for sweet potatoes. TIME: approx 15-30 minutes (with standard child interruptions) - without videoing this process would have taken less than 5 minutes.. Some patience required to wait for slips if you intend to plant them in water, though as stated in the video - you can plant them directly into the ground!
