Malgunji is a complex Raga of the Khamaj Thaat. Raag Malgunji is obtained by combining Bageshree with Khamaj. Due the presence of both gandhars it is sometimes thought to impinge on the boundary between Bageshree and Rageshree, although the use of the shuddha G via ‘D ‘n S R G m is special and unique to Malgunji is popularly described as being a combination of Raga Rageshri (in the ascent) and Raga Bageshri ( in the descent). If traditionally Bageshri evokes feelings of separation from the lover, and Rageshri represents reunion, Malgunji depicts the initial realization of the reunion. Svaras The Svaras in the raga are, Panchama Varjyit in the Aaroh. Both Nishads, Both Gāndhāras. Rest all Shuddha Svaras.
