УВБ 76 - Unmasking

It's been a prodigious year for Delaware-based signalwave artist Mike Mitchell, better known in online spaces as УВБ-76! Making their inaugural Vivarium foray earlier this year with 'Paranoia in 6 Easy Steps / Dusk Sails', a highly dualistic split alongside Armenian droneweaver lurp sheets, they've since seen their shortwave-enchanneled sound featured on Bogus Collective, Freshwater Media and Dark Web Recordings, among many other labels orbiting a shared interest in narrative-oriented, sample-induced conceptual ambient. It is with 'Unmasking' they make their solo Vivarium debut, a continuous stream of scratchy, fluctuating dark ambient that exudes a loneliness which pleads to be felt in the isolation of a dark setting. In its texture-encrusted signal, we sense the wear of a corroding world. Yet, the subtle, soothing pulse of phaserwave and heavenly, droning voices juxtapose the disquiet with a sonic caress. Allow its despondent rumble and aching transmission crackle to reverberate about the interiority only offered in solitude and the listener may find a balm for bewildering times.
