Ordino Arcalís is a ski resort in Andorra that, due to its peculiar and hard ascent, is frequently used as the end of the stage of the great events of the international cycling calendar.
Ordino Arcalís is a ski resort located in the parish of Ordino, north of the Principality of Andorra. The station was created in 1983, with 4 ski lifts. In recent years it has grown to reach 29 km of slopes. It is known for being one of the places where snow is best preserved in the entire Pyrenees, for its quality and for being a world benchmark for off-piste, thanks to the international events that have taken place in recent years in its mountains, such as the development of Freeride World Tour tests, a reference event in this discipline, and others of https://www.freerideworldtour.com/eve... lower category, included within of the world circuit.
During the summer it is known for being a top-class mountain pass. La Coma has been on three occasions (1997, 2009, 2016) the finish line of Le Tour de France. In addition, it is known for the hiking and mountaineering routes, which allow hikers to access high mountain places, highly valued for the richness of the views and the exceptional nature of the orography.
Ordino-Arcalis, due to its peculiar and hard ascent, is frequently used as the end of the stage of the great events of the international cycling calendar.
Despite being a very alpine resort, it is aimed at all types of public, since it has invested in offering service to all skiers, from the most expert, to beginners, and of all age ranges. The maximum elevation of the station is Creussans, at 2,625 m, and the minimum is 1,940 m.
The construction of the station dates back to 1982, when the first bollard of the Vailets ski lift was placed. Since then, the successive communal leaders have invested in the extension of the tracks, also opening the area of La Coma and Creussans, up to the present time with 30 km of tracks.
In 1983 the station was opened for a few days, coinciding with Holy Week, with three ski lifts and a chairlift. The official opening takes place in December 1983, thus the first season was 1983-1984.
In 1984 new tracks were created, and they were named after. In the 1988-89 season, the Planells building, the Orris ski lift, the Coma chairlift and the Crestas track were created. In 1990 the Abarsetar chairlift and the La Fuente track were launched. In 1992 the names of the tracks were restructured and those that did not have it were added. The same year the slalom stadium was created. It is not until 1994 when the snow garden is created. Already in the 1996 season, the Basera chairlift was built. The same year the Feixans ski lift was installed to go off piste. The expansion towards the Creussans area became effective in 1999.
The two stations, despite not being physically united, added their facilities and activities, becoming one of the most complete snow and mountain destinations in the Pyrenees, with 93 kilometers of slopes. VALLNORD differs from other resorts in that its two snow fields come together to complement each other.
The management of the station has been exclusively public, that is, by the Ordino community until 2018. However, in 2018, Saetde (a group that also manages, among others, Pas de la Casa - Grau Roig) acquired 76 % of ownership for the next 50 years. This allows Ordino Arcalís to carry out a strategic Plan that includes, among others, an investment of 25 million euros until 2028.
The station has 14 ski lifts capable of transporting 16,510 skiers / hour.
1 detachable chairlift 6p. with Magnestick, (La Coma)
1 detachable chairlift 4p. with Magnestick (the Basera)
