BrindaMukthi presents Akṣayaliṅga Vibhō, the majestic Sankarabharanam masterpiece of Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar, rendered by Sangita Kalanidhi Smt T Brinda and Sangita Kala Acharya Smt T Muktha.
Among Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar's great temple compositions, Akṣayaliṅga Vibhō stands as one of the finest embodiments of the grandeur of rāga Sankarabharanam. Dedicated to Lord Akṣayaliṅgeśvara of Kizhvelur near Tiruvarur, the kriti is traditionally believed to have been composed during the composer's visit to the sacred shrine. Its expansive melodic architecture, richly woven sahitya and meditative spirit have made it one of the enduring pillars of the Carnatic concert repertoire.
Particularly striking is the sisters' elaboration of the neraval at the line:
"Badarī Vanamulā Nāyikā Sahita..."
Their exploration possesses an almost meditative stillness, gently revolving around the pañchama while drawing life from the delicate shades of the surrounding anu-swaras. Rather than seeking rhythmic brilliance or dramatic expansion, the neraval becomes an exercise in musical contemplation, exemplifying the distinctive aesthetic of the Veena Dhanammal bani, where depth is achieved through restraint, nuance and complete immersion in the rāga.
