Can a 1989 album by The Cure teach us something about modern business and artificial intelligence? Apparently so. In this episode of For the Record, I'm using three copies of The Cure's magnificent Disintegration - on vinyl, cassette and CD - to explore why newer doesn't always mean better. From the rise of the compact disc and the supposed death of vinyl to streaming and our current obsession with AI, we've always been keen to embrace the next big thing. But does the latest technology always deliver a better experience? With businesses seemingly racing to add AI to absolutely everything, perhaps we should occasionally ask whether it actually solves a problem, or whether we're simply jumping on the latest bandwagon. There's a bit of music history, some questionable business advice, and a man attempting to justify owning the same album in three different formats. The business lesson? Technology should make things better for your customers, not just make your business look more modern.
