Is NH66 Really the Best Route? Munnar to Mangaluru Drive | Diversions & Our Honest Experience 🚙 Road Trip Plan | Munnar to Mumbai | Fortuner Drive Adventure Our long road journey started from Hotel White House, Munnar and continued towards Mumbai, with a comfortable overnight stay at Hotel Heera on the Mangaluru Highway. Day 1 was all about leaving the beautiful tea mountains of Munnar and heading towards Mangaluru. We originally planned to enjoy a smooth drive through NH66, but the reality was quite different. A large number of sections on NH66 are currently under construction, which resulted in frequent diversions, uneven temporary roads, slow-moving traffic, and continuous lane changes. Because of these diversion stretches, the drive became more tiring than expected and took extra concentration and patience. If you are planning this route, keep additional travel time in hand. After our night halt in Mangaluru, we started early the next morning and continued the journey via NH66, later shifting to NH52 at Ankola, then driving through Yellapur → Kittur → Belagavi → NH48 towards Mumbai. One of the most memorable parts of the trip was the Yellapur forest stretch—peaceful roads surrounded by dense greenery, fresh air, and scenic Western Ghats landscapes. The forest route felt calm and refreshing after the long highway diversions.
