If overthinking is your thing, rain is probably your friend.
I don't know what it is exactly, but there seems to be a reason so many people sleep better when it's raining. Maybe it's the consistency. Maybe it's the way it masks all the little sounds around us. Or maybe it just gives the brain something harmless to focus on instead of replaying tomorrow's problems at 2am.
Whatever the reason, it felt like the perfect companion to my original Overthinking soundscape.
If you heard the original, you'll know it was built specifically around helping the brain step away from that alert, problem-solving state that keeps so many of us awake at night. In fact, when I asked you lot what most affected your sleep, overthinking came out comfortably on top.
The original layers are all still here beneath the rainfall:
Parasympathetic Regulation Texture
A smooth low frequency noise layer designed to encourage the rest side of the nervous system. The idea here is consistency. No sudden changes, nothing sharp, just a stable background texture that does not demand attention.
Nervous System Stabilising Noise
A brown-noise weighted foundation to help mask small environmental sounds and reduce sensory alertness. This helps remove little disturbances that can keep the brain scanning instead of settling.
Neural Entrainment Waves
Very light but slow movement in the sound designed to give attention something predictable to rest on. Not a rhythm, just gentle motion so the sound feels natural without becoming stimulating.
For Overthinking Rain, I took those layers and blended them beneath rainfall recorded here in Kent. The deeper textures continue doing their work underneath, while the rain adds another layer of gentle masking and consistency over the top. Everything was softened, filtered and reshaped to feel like a single uninterrupted soundscape rather than two separate sounds sitting on top of each other.
The result is probably one of the easiest sounds I've made to simply leave running in the background. Nothing to analyse. Nothing to follow. Nothing demanding your attention.
And if your brain insists on opening fifteen new tabs the moment your head hits the pillow, maybe this one helps close a few of them.
Sleep long and sleep well, friends.
MADE USING: Kent rainfall recordings, brown noise shaping, low frequency drone layering, slow amplitude modulation, harmonic filtering, neural entrainment design and long-form sound balancing.
