My Past Has A Problem | Tim Timberlake

Series: The Winds of Change Message: My Past Has a Problem Main Scripture: Acts 9:20–22 What happens when you encounter Jesus and your past no longer agrees with who you are becoming? In My Past Has a Problem, Pastor Tim Timberlake walks through Saul’s dramatic transformation in Acts 9. The same man who once persecuted followers of Jesus is now standing in the synagogue proclaiming that Jesus is the Son of God. His past didn't disappear—but his encounter with Jesus changed his direction, his message, his identity, and ultimately his future. This message is a powerful reminder that God doesn't have to erase your past to make it testify for your future. Your history does not disqualify your testimony. In fact, what Jesus has delivered you from can become evidence of His grace, mercy, redemption, and transforming power. When Jesus changes the direction of your life, He eventually changes the subject of your mouth. You don't have to spend your life defending who you've become—keep growing, keep proclaiming Jesus, and let your transformed life speak for itself. Key Moments 00:00 - Introduction 00:06:17 — Acts 9:20–22 The foundation of the message: Saul immediately begins proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God. 00:11:30 — One Encounter Can Change Your Life Saul's past was known, but one encounter with Jesus completely changed his direction. 00:15:39 — When Jesus Changes Your Direction “When Jesus changes the direction of your life, He eventually changes the subject of your mouth.” 00:31:50 — Your Past Can Testify “God doesn't have to erase your past to make it testify for your future.” 00:40:54 — Outgrow Your Old Reputation “You don't overcome an old reputation by arguing with it. You outgrow it.” Key Takeaways 1. Your encounter with Jesus should change your direction. Saul didn't simply have a new belief—he had a completely new direction for his life. 2. When Jesus changes you, your message changes. Transformation eventually becomes visible in what you talk about, what you proclaim, and how you live. 3. Your past doesn't disqualify your testimony. God can use the very history you're tempted to hide as evidence of what His grace has done in your life. 4. You don't have to argue with people's perception of you. You don't overcome an old reputation by defending yourself—you outgrow it through continued growth and obedience to God. 5. A real encounter with Jesus becomes difficult to keep private. Saul didn't know everything, but he knew what Jesus had done for him. His testimony became his proclamation. Final Thought Your past may remember who you were, but Jesus has the final word about who you are becoming. When you've truly encountered Jesus, you don't have to spend your life proving that you've changed—your transformed life becomes the testimony. 🙏 If this message encouraged you: Share this message with someone who needs to know that their past does not disqualify their future.
