Corn Island: Entre Cocos, Mar y Tradición

CORN ISLAND: ENTRE COCOS, MAR Y TRADICIÓN Hay lugares que conocemos con los ojos y otros que terminamos conociendo a través de sus sabores, sus aromas y las historias de su gente. Corn Island fue para mí uno de esos lugares. Este documental forma parte de mi proyecto final del Máster en Gastronomía y Periodismo de Viajes. Viajé hasta Corn Island, en el Caribe de Nicaragua, para acercarme a su cocina, sus ingredientes y, sobre todo, a las personas que mantienen vivas sus tradiciones gastronómicas. Entre coco, mar, fogones y recuerdos, fui descubriendo que detrás de una receta hay mucho más que ingredientes: hay familia, memoria, identidad, raíces y una historia que merece ser contada. Este trabajo no habría sido posible sin el apoyo incondicional de mi familia, que me acompañó y creyó en este proyecto desde el comienzo; sin la colaboración y el cariño de amigos, tanto en Nicaragua como en Finlandia, que de distintas maneras hicieron posible este camino; y, sobre todo, sin la generosidad de cada uno de los protagonistas de Corn Island, que me abrió las puertas de su casa, de su cocina y de su historia. A todos ellos, gracias por ser parte de este sueño y ayudarme a convertirlo en una historia que hoy puedo compartir con ustedes. Este documental es también una pequeña manera de acercarnos a Nicaragua desde la distancia y de recordar que, aunque vivamos lejos, hay sabores capaces de llevarnos de regreso a casa. For me, Corn Island was one of those places. This documentary is part of my final project for my Master’s Degree in Gastronomy and Travel Journalism. I traveled to Corn Island, in the Caribbean of Nicaragua, to discover its cuisine, its ingredients and, above all, the people who keep its culinary traditions alive. Among coconuts, the sea, traditional kitchens, and memories, I discovered that behind every recipe there is much more than a list of ingredients: there is family, memory, identity, roots, and a story worth telling. This project would not have been possible without the unconditional support of my family, who stood by me and believed in this project from the very beginning; without the collaboration and kindness of friends in both Nicaragua and Finland, who helped make this journey possible in so many different ways; and, above all, without the generosity of the people of Corn Island who opened the doors of their homes, their kitchens, and their stories to me.
