And on this night, Gurkan Ozkan produced one of the biggest upsets of the era! 💥 Standing across from the Turkish-Australian fighter was legendary Thai Muay Thai star Changpuek Kiatsongrit — a highly experienced fighter who had already competed against some of the biggest names in international kickboxing. Changpuek had fought the likes of Rob Kaman, Ernesto Hoost, Andy Hug and Taiei Kin, and had been a finalist in the 1993 K-2 World Grand Prix. Earlier in 1995, Changpuek had also defeated Takashi Sugiyama by unanimous decision before facing Ivan Hippolyte at K-3 Grand Prix '95 in July. But Melbourne was a completely different story... 💥 GURKAN OZKAN — KO, ROUND 1 — 1:58! The official fight records list Ozkan stopping Changpuek by punches at 1:58 of the opening round. It was a stunning result and another memorable chapter in the early years of Tarik Solak's Australian fight promotions. Ozkan would go on to become a major figure in Australian kickboxing, later competing against names including Stan "The Man" Longinidis and Mike "Iron" Zambidis. In 2003, Ozkan famously stopped Longinidis by leg kicks in the ninth round.
