Erykah Badu - deep cuts
This woman needs no introduction. I'm sure you all not only know her, but enjoy listening to her just as much as I do. As always, I took my time going through all her albums and I actually held off on this set until her latest album came out.
Quick note on that: this set doesn't include any new tracks from the latest album, simply because the songs that would've fit were already pre-released, so they don't really count as deep cuts anymore. That's not a big deal though, since I found plenty of Erykah Badu deep cuts for all kinds of different sets with different themes and vibes.
I found her songs about love and heartbreak the strongest, so that's the arc I built this set around: the first few tracks show her clearly interested in a guy, even trying to convince him to be with her. In the tracks that follow, you can feel the relationship becoming unstable and gradually falling apart up to the point where it's clear it just isn't going to work, and she accepts letting go. Toward the end, she finds her playful side again, which really comes through musically in the last two tracks.
The set opens with my all-time favorite track, which runs almost 11 minutes in its original form. I split it into two parts: the set starts with part one and closes with part two, creating a bookend that ties together all the tracks in between thematically.
What's your favorite Erykah Badu track?
I'd love to discover some of your favorites in the comments.

"This is not mixing!"
Some DJs keep commenting “where is the mixing” under my YouTube sets. But not every episode is meant for the club or a dancefloor crowd.
When I share music online, it’s less about flashy blends and more about storytelling through sound and lyrics.
For me, the magic is in the selection, the sequence, and the way one track emotionally leads into the next: like chapters in a concept album. Smooth mood transitions, occasional sharp pivots, lyrical progression, rising tension, soft landings…
And most importantly: most songs are perfect as they are. Why cut them short when every second is delicious! I love letting tracks breathe, unfold, and shine.

deep cuts
A "deep cut" is a lesser known piece of music that presents one or more of the following traits:
1. it has never been played live or gets performed rarely
2. it is not frequently heard on the radio because it is not a hit and, as a result, doesn’t fit within most of the ordinary and commercially appealing playlists
3. it is known almost exclusively by the truest and most devoted fans of a given artist or band
4. the label “deep cut” can be assigned to any of the album tracks that have not been published as a single
5. it is considered as a particularly brilliant song that most of a band’s ordinary fans are generally unaware of
6. it is a track buried in the huge catalogue of an artist with a long career
7. it may be any of an artist’s older songs that is not played live or broadcast as frequently as it was before
