A Beautiful World – Genesis 1:1-31; Genesis 2:1-2 Having established in week one that creation care matters because Christ is Lord over all creation, week two moves back to the beginning of our theological underpinning in the biblical story: creation itself. Before we can talk about caring for the world, we need to understand how God sees it and relates to it. Genesis repeatedly emphasises that creation is not accidental, chaotic, or insignificant, it is intentionally made by God and repeatedly declared good, culminating in God calling it “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Psalm 19 speaks of creation declaring God’s glory, and Romans 1 reminds us that God’s invisible qualities are revealed through what He has made. Throughout Scripture, we also see God’s ongoing commitment to creation. He does not simply create the world and step back from it; He delights in it, sustains it, and remains deeply invested in what He has made. Creation points beyond itself to the Creator, inviting worship, gratitude, and wonder. Creation matters because it matters to God. If week one expanded our understanding of the gospel, week two deepens our understanding of creation, helping the church see the world not as something to exploit or ignore, but as something that belongs to God, reveals His glory, and is worthy of our care.
