Australia to evacuate thousands as Sydney faces worst floods in decades

Thousands more in Sydney could be evacuated from their homes, as the Australian state of New South Wales battles its worst flooding in decades. After days of heavy rain, rivers have swelled to their highest levels in 30 years. The situation is expected to get worse. 18,000 people have already had to leave their homes. Emergency services fear that number could rise to more than 50,000. Some regions in New South Wales have received 900mm of rain in the last week -- more than three times the average at this time of the year. 38 regions have been declared disaster zones.
