Thuparamaya is the earliest documented Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka. It is located in the ancient city of Anuradhapura and dates back to the 3rd century BC. The temple is believed to have been built by King Devanampiya Tissa, the first king of Sri Lanka to convert to Buddhism.   Thuparamaya is a 50-meter-tall white-domed structure surrounded by a circular wall constructed by 30 stone pillars. The temple is most notable for housing one of Buddha's relics—his right collarbone. This makes it a pilgrimage site for Buddhists from all over the world.   The Thuparamaya is a beautiful and important site well worth visiting. It reminds us of the long and rich history of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
