my fathers classic jowett jupiter1952.. Jowetts of Bradford had made cars since 1908. After the second world war they produced the Javelin saloon which was very popular. Their vans were also successful. All their engines were flat twins in the vans and flat fours in the saloon cars. In 1950 they designed and produced the Jupiter aiming for the American market. It was successful winning its class at Le Mans two years running. They unfortunately decided to produce their own gearboxes which were unreliable. The bodies built up and the debt built up and they liquidated in 1953, paid all debts and the factory was sold. Over a thousand Jupiter's were made and a lot are still on the road in England, Europe, New Zealand, Australia and America. The Jowett Club is well run and spares are available for all the different cars, with many new parts made in Eastern European countries.
