School Guardhouse Catches Fire in Samarinda!

Incident Details Date & Time: Thursday, August 20, 2026, at approximately 04:50 PM WITA (Central Indonesia Time). Location: Behind the main building of SDN 001 Samarinda Kota, Jalan Tirta Kencana, RT 07, Bugis Village, Samarinda Kota District, Samarinda, East Kalimantan. Latitude / Longitude: 0°30'00.0"S 117°08'29.5"E Decimal Coordinates: -0.5000083, 117.14153 Damaged Structures: 1 school caretaker/guardhouse (completely destroyed). 2 school canteen stalls (completely burned down). 1 employee mess hall (lightly damaged/affected). Casualties & Injuries: There were no fatalities as school hours had already ended and students had gone home. However, 4 minor injuries/medical emergencies were handled by the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) at the scene: 1 teacher suffered from smoke inhalation (shortness of breath). 1 resident suffered a minor burn on the hand.1 volunteer sustained a laceration/cut on the hand. 1 student was accidentally bitten by a dog during the commotion. Chronology & Cause: The fire broke out unexpectedly from the back area of the school. The flames grew rapidly due to flammable building materials, triggering panic among passersby. The initial suspicion points to an electrical short circuit inside the caretaker’s residence. Firefighting Efforts: The Samarinda Fire and Rescue Department (Disdamkarmat Posko 1), assisted by the police, military (Brimob), BPBD, and dozens of volunteer emergency units, deployed 11 fire trucks and 21 portable water pumps.
