hello hihihi! how is everyone doing?? sending love to all of youuu and a reminder if you want to stay in the loop on the next vinyl release and merch and shows, sign up hereee https://laylo.com/coulou i just got back from my first ever solo tour and it was in china! and wow i have to say i was so so humbled. i know it may seem a bit crazy that i went all the way to china for my first tour instead of the US, but the opportunity came up and i was realllly feeling like a solo adventure in a place so very far from home might be something my soul needs. it was truly such a beautiful experience and reminded me of soo many important things. the world is absolutely massively expansive and soooo tiny and close knit. our experiences are both soooo different and sooooooooooo so so similar. talking to fans after each show in china it was so beautiful hearing everyone's unique relationship to the music and i couldn't help but notice how similar the experiences were with the fans i've spoken with after shows i've played in the US. it reminded me in such a deep way how universally connecting music can be, this incredibly intimate experience unbound by language, music is just absolute magic. performing so much just brought me back in touch with the immense amount of gratitude i have to be able to express my voice through music in a way that connects me the people in such a meaningful way. it also really reminded me of how inherently political music is. while i was in China, Xi Jinping was visiting the US and all over the news people were talking about how tense the relations between our countries were. At the same time, I'm playing shows for people all across China, staying out and talking and eating with people im meeting in each city, sometimes till the sun was coming up. The love i could feel for a people and a place, so organically and naturally, its such a core human experience. It's so important to recall its the rich and power hungry people that keep telling us who are enemies are, which is completely insane. It's a bunch of emotionally dysregulated men who cant control their sensitive feelings and rather than going to therapy they instead decide to make it their life's mission to hoard as much wealth and power as possible to see if maybe it'll make them feel better about themselves. whats so incomprehensibly beautiful is also what can feel so sad. in a world where we can reach anyone in real time in any corner of the globe, it feels like were more isolated than we were when i was in 7th grade sending letters to my pen pal in Spain. maybe we should bring pen pals back, wouldn't it be awesome to know you have a friend in a totally different part of the world that you can go visit one day? sorry adhd thought routing happening there, but my point is music is political in sooo many ways. It's political for regular people to realize how much we all actually get along, it's political to realize that the rich and powerful need us to fight so they can profit off our hate. not counting the comment sections on instagram, how often are you meeting hateful people? it absolutely happens, unfortunately it's almost always more memorable than meeting someone kind, but! you remember those people because it's not what the norm is. we outnumber them and we have so much power in recognizing that. sorry i went way off track and didn't talk about my tour at all but now that were here. 1. make sure if you're in the US you are voting in the midterms, your voice matters !!! 2. do something so kind for a stranger this week, we all have the superpower to take one step out of our comfort zone and do something good, and the impact always ripples around us and bring light in ways we cannot even comprehend. 3. be kind to yourself! the world is nuts, but you are precious and it's important to tell that to yourself because none of us hear that enough. ok, thats enough typing for today. love you all, thank you forever for gathering here and being a part of this community, we're all in this together !! lovelovelove, coulou
