5,600 reps. Five pounds down. Bigger pull-up sets. So why is my body-composition app reporting lower muscle-mass estimates?
Welcome to the halfway update of my TryHardDad 30-workout challenge! Each session means 50 pull-ups, 150 push-ups, and 150 body weight squats, broken into rounds with short rests.
Between working full time, coaching hockey, and chasing four kids, I wanted to see what consistent, short workouts could add up to. Sixteen workouts later, there’s plenty to talk about.
In this video, I share:
💪 My workout log and changes in reps per set
⌚ Apple Watch workout times, calorie estimates, and heart-rate data
📊 Hume body-composition estimates from September 17 to October 9
📸 Progress photos and what I’m watching in the second half
THE HALFWAY NUMBERS:
• 16 of 30 workouts complete
• 800 pull-ups, 2,400 push-ups, and 2,400 squats
• Average recorded workout: 17 minutes, 2 seconds
• Weight: 199.2 → 194.2 pounds
• Estimated body fat: 20.6% → 20.1%
• Opening pull-up set: 15 reps on the first workout → 20 on last two workouts
But the scale doesn’t tell the whole story. Hume also reported lower lean-mass and skeletal-muscle estimates. Those readings don’t prove actual muscle loss, so I’m sharing the full picture as I work toward the finish line. I’ve also been tracking macros and eating to lean out, which matters when looking at these changes.
Fourteen workouts remain. The finish-line goal? 10,500 total reps.
