Amber Guyger Got Parole 7 Years After Killing Botham Jean

Two days after what would have been Botham Jean's 35th birthday, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles granted Amber Guyger parole. Here's why, and what his family says. On Thursday, October 1, 2026, the board granted parole to Amber Guyger, the former Dallas police officer convicted of murdering Botham Jean in his own apartment in 2018. It came seven years to the day after a Dallas jury convicted her. The video explains why she was granted parole after seven years of a ten-year sentence: the Texas rule that made her eligible, the 2024 denial, the board's own stated reasons this time, and what Botham Jean's family says now. WHERE THE CASE STANDS (as of Oct. 2, 2026) Amber Guyger: convicted of murder (2019), 10-year sentence; granted parole Oct. 1, 2026. No release date announced.
