Pastor Ock Soo Park' Lectures on the Gospel of Mark Weekly Sermon Series on CTN Episode 14: Son, Thy Sins Be Forgiven Thee In chapter 2, Jesus was in Capernaum. He entered into a house. People brought Him one sick of the palsy. This paralytic was brought, but he could not join in because the place was so crowded. They had brought him on a bed. They could not enter, so they uncovered the roof and let him down to Jesus on the bed. Jesus was inside of the room, preaching the word. But from above, He felt something was falling. He looked up to see. Something was being let down. It was let down, and Jesus looked. A person was lying there. The paralytic was lying there. This way, the paralytic met Jesus for the first time. This paralytic was in a lot of pain and suffering. If you were Jesus, what would you have said to the paralytic? The paralytic was waiting to see what Jesus would say. But what Jesus said to the paralytic was, "Son, thy sins be forgiven thee." Everyone, these words are the words Christians around the world want to hear the most. The reason I'm saying this is, I went to church from a young age. Even though my whole life I heard many times that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, but when I was 19, that's when for the first time, I got to know, "Oh, my sins are forgiven." What's the reason we are talking about this? I've met with many Christians. But it was very hard to find anyone who says that they have the assurance of receiving the forgiveness of sins. If you go to most churches, the pastor says that they're sinners. The elders say that they're sinners. The deacons also say that they're sinners. Then, of course, we should say we're sinners. Such is the flow in Christianity for the most part. But when we read the Bible, That's not the case. In the Bible, when Jesus first met this paralytic, "Wow, you're very sick. It must be so hard on you. I will heal you." It seemed that Jesus would say these kinds of things. But Jesus did not talk about the sickness at all. But what was it that Jesus wanted to say the most to this man? I'm sure there were many things Jesus could've said to the paralytic. But when He first opened His lips, He said, "Son, thy sins be forgiven thee." That's right. "Son, thy sins be forgiven thee." Everyone, this is what I want to talk to you about today. When Jesus sees the paralytic, "Oh, it must be difficult. Yes, it must have been very hard on you. How did you get sick? Okay, I will heal you." He could've said any one of those things. But He pushed all such words aside. What did Jesus say? Jesus said, "Son, thy sins be forgiven thee." Pastor Ock Soo Park’s Lectures on the Gospel of Mark streams live every Saturday.
