NOT MY MEMORY — Part V of The Remembrance Saga What happens when the thing you fear is no longer outside you? After Three Lights, the signal is gone — but something has returned with it. A memory. Not her memory. She wakes with dirt beneath her nails. She remembers a forest she never entered, a radio room from before she was born, hands that were never hers… and the same lights appearing again and again through different lives. The owl is still there. But perhaps the owl was never the thing watching. Perhaps it was simply the image left behind when the real memory became impossible to carry. And underneath this fictional story is something genuinely strange: governments really have investigated unexplained sightings for decades. The U.S. Air Force recorded 12,618 sightings through Project Blue Book; 701 remained classified as “Unidentified.” The Air Force found no evidence that those cases represented extraterrestrial vehicles — but those 701 cases nevertheless remained unidentified. In Britain, military personnel at RAF Woodbridge reported mysterious lights in Rendlesham Forest in December 1980. Lt. Col. Charles Halt filed an official memorandum titled “Unexplained Lights.” Britain’s Ministry of Defence did not establish an explanation for the incident, although it judged the event to be of no defence significance and noted that no unidentified object had been detected on radar. And the investigations did not end with the Cold War. A 2021 U.S. intelligence assessment examined 144 government UAP reports, including 80 observed by multiple sensors. One was identified with high confidence as a balloon; the remainder in that dataset were still unexplained at the time of the assessment. AARO continues investigating modern reports today. Its 2024 report stated that many cases remain unresolved because there is simply not enough data to reach a defensible conclusion. At the same time, the Pentagon states that it has found no verifiable evidence of extraterrestrial beings, activity, or technology. That distinction matters. Unidentified does not mean extraterrestrial. But unidentified also does not mean imaginary. Not My Memory takes that small space between what was observed and what was never explained… and turns it into horror. Different year. Different face. Same lights. Same owl.
