Of What Faith Are You _ Raha From both my eyes, I shed tears of blood in the sorrow of our night apart; What can I do? These tears are flowers from the garden of love. All night, like a dog, I lay my head upon your doorstep, So that no rival may enter, disguised as a beggar. I have no flower to offer; with what face could I enter the garden? For I have heard that all its flowers carry the scent of faithlessness. Of What faith are you? What nation do you belong to? That a lover should be put to death simply for loving you? My beloved’s lashes and eyes appear before me Like a Khotan gazelle grazing among a field of hyacinths. Why does the gate to the garden of my eyes always remain open? In the hope that perhaps, one day, you will appear before my eyes. I went to the gambling house and found everyone playing with an open heart; But when I reached the monastery, I found only hypocritical ascetics. I went to circle the Kaaba, but they would not let me enter the sanctuary. They asked, “What have you done outside that you should be allowed inside?” I was knocking at the door of the tavern when a voice called from within: “Come in, come in, Eraghi!, for you, too, belong among us.”
