Gladys Deacon was once considered one of the most beautiful and fascinating women of the Gilded Age. She moved among European royalty, artists, writers, and some of the most powerful aristocratic families of her time. She was painted by Giovanni Boldini, associated with artists such as Rodin and Monet, and eventually became the Duchess of Marlborough.
But behind the glamour was a deeply troubled life.
Her childhood was marked by scandal. Her obsession with beauty led to a disastrous cosmetic procedure. She spent years waiting to marry the Duke of Marlborough, only to see their marriage descend into conflict. Eventually, she was forced out of Blenheim Palace and withdrew almost completely from society.
In 1962, Gladys Deacon was taken to St Andrew's Hospital, where she spent the final fifteen years of her life. She died in 1977 at the age of 96.
This is the haunting true story of Gladys Deacon, the extraordinary socialite who went from aristocratic glamour and Blenheim Palace to complete isolation.
